How Has Technology Changed Education?

The use of technology has made education and learning more convenient and interactive. The introduction of e-books, downloadable study materials, and online learning platforms has changed the way teachers and students interact with each other. However, technology has also brought about its own set of challenges. These include the possibility of negative repercussions. 

Online study materials are more interactive, user friendly, and easy to read 

Online study materials may be the new kid on the block, but that does not mean they cannot provide an engaging learning experience. One of the best benefits is the ability to access study materials before and after class. On the flip side, it can be a bit of a pain to coordinate with fellow students on the same campus. To make the experience more manageable, a plethora of technology options are available to the slacker student. For example, there are apps and software that allow you to create your own virtual library to which you can curate your own trove of content. 

Distraction and lack of focus are at an entirely new level with tiny handheld computers 

Distraction and lack of focus have become a reality in our everyday lives. In today’s always-connected world, diversions are clicks away. While it can be hard to avoid them, a few simple workarounds can help keep distractions at bay. 

The ability to focus on a task is essential to success. Whether you are studying, learning, working, or just enjoying life, it’s important to be able to focus your attention. If you can’t do it, you’re more likely to be distracted and less likely to reach your goals. 

It’s estimated that American businesses lose up to $650 billion per year due to distraction. There are many factors that contribute to distraction. They can be internal or external. For instance, an office could be noisy or you could have a stressful personal situation. 

Teachers’ position has changed with the introduction of online study platforms and apps 

During the Pandemic of COVID-19, over 1.2 billion children are missing from school. This pandemic has radically altered education in most parts of the world. It has forced academics to work with their students in an online environment. Despite the ubiquity of the internet, academics still face significant challenges in delivering courses. Among other challenges, a digital divide has emerged, which could affect different groups of students. 

To understand how emergency online teaching scenarios developed, this study investigated the experiences of academics who were using online teaching activities during the outbreak. Data was collected from fourteen university faculty members who participated in semi-structured interviews. The data was analysed using a deductive coding approach. In addition, the third author collected fieldnotes capturing academics’ reactions and thoughts on emergency teaching scenarios. 

Negative repercussions 

Many students use technology for educational purposes, but the negative repercussions of technology in education can also be a cause for concern. Although the internet can be a great resource for learning, it can also distract students from learning and lead to other problems. 

Students often overuse technology. This can lead to problems with reading, writing, and communication skills. It can also be a distraction during class lectures or assignments. 

There is a growing disconnect between educators and students. In addition, the modern era of technology has impacted the social skills of students. The basic premise of education is to teach children how to interact with others in a peaceful way. However, modern technologies have impacted this goal by eliminating interaction between teachers and students.
